Individuals who purchased certain digital video games through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2023, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC agreed to pay $7,850,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it engaged in anticompetitive conduct in the PlayStation digital game market. The lawsuit claimed Sony’s actions led to higher prices for certain digital games customers purchased through the PlayStation Store.
Who are the class members?
Class members must meet the following criteria to qualify for the settlement:
- They are a person in the United States.
- They purchased one or more video games through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2023. They may not have purchased the game(s) at a third-party retailer.
- The video game they purchased had a game-specific voucher available at retail prior to April 1, 2019.
- The video game they purchased had at least 200 GSV redemptions prior to April 1, 2019.
- The post-discount price of the game increased by at least $.50 when comparing the period Jan. 1, 2017, to March 31, 2019, with the period April 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2023.
A GSV is defined as a physical voucher or electronic code purchased from a non-Sony retailer that allows a PlayStation user to download a specific game from the PlayStation network. The settlement website provides a list of eligible games that meet these criteria.
How much is the PlayStation settlement payout?
The settlement administrator will deduct attorneys’ fees, costs, service awards and administration expenses from the 7,850,000 settlement fund before distributing it to eligible class members.
Each qualifying claimant's share of the settlement depends on the number of qualifying purchases they made compared to the total number of qualifying purchases all class members made. The more qualifying purchases an individual made, the larger their portion of the payout.
No claim form needed to receive payment
Eligible class members do not need to file a claim form. Sony Interactive Entertainment will automatically distribute the settlement funds as PlayStation Store credits to PSN account wallets.
Individuals who deactivated their PSN account can still receive a payment by contacting the settlement administrator by phone, email or mail and providing qualifying purchase information and a current address. The deadline to submit a payment request is Aug. 27, 2026.

Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Sony Interactive Entertainment violated federal antitrust and certain state laws by eliminating the sale of digital games at retail and monopolizing the PlayStation digital game market. The plaintiffs claimed this conduct caused consumers to pay more for certain digital games than they otherwise would have.
Sony denies all allegations of wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation and expense.
