
If you had your vehicle towed by Private Property Impound, Inc. (PPI) from a private property in Alameda County, California, between January 1, 2017 and July 23, 2019, you may be eligible to submit a claim for reimbursement for the amount you paid to recover your vehicle, or receive up to $1,000 if you did not recover it, from a class action settlement.
Private Property Impound, Inc. has agreed to pay restitution to resolve a lawsuit filed by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. The lawsuit alleged that PPI unlawfully towed vehicles from private properties in Alameda County during the specified period.
Who is eligible for a settlement payout?
You are a class member if:
- Your vehicle was towed by Private Property Impound, Inc. (PPI), or by an agent or employee of PPI between January 1, 2017 and July 23, 2019.
- The tow took place from a private property located in Alameda County, California.
How much will my payment be?
- Class members that recovered their towed vehicle may receive up to the full amount paid plus interest.
- Class members that did not recover their towed vehicle may receive up to $1,000.
How to claim a towing settlement payment
To claim a benefit, you must submit a claim by the deadline of June 28, 2025. You can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form, fill it out, and mail it to the settlement administrator.
