If you delivered food as a DoorDash “Dasher” in New York state between May 2017 and September 2019, you may be eligible to submit a claim for a cash payment from a class action settlement. DoorDash, Inc. has agreed to pay $16.75 million to resolve claims that it failed to pay New York Dashers the full amount of customer tips in addition to the guaranteed payment for each delivery.
The settlement follows an investigation by the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG), which found that DoorDash’s pay model misled both Dashers and customers about how tips were distributed.

Why did this DoorDash settlement happen?
The New York OAG investigated DoorDash and found that, from May 2017 through September 2019, DoorDash used customer tips to subsidize the guaranteed payment to Dashers, rather than paying tips in addition to the guaranteed amount. This practice was not clearly disclosed to Dashers or customers. The OAG alleged that this violated New York Executive Law §63(12) and General Business Law §349, which prohibit deceptive business practices.
DoorDash did not admit wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case in order compensate affected Dashers. DoorDash also agreed to implement changes to its pay model and disclosures, ensuring Dashers will receive the full tips paid by each customer.
