Margaret Mary Community Hospital Privacy Settlement

Patients of Margaret Mary Community Hospital Inc. who logged into a patient portal account between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2023, may qualify to claim a $25 payment from a class action settlement.

Margaret Mary Community Hospital Inc. agreed to pay $215,329.45 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it disclosed confidential personally identifiable information and/or protected health information to third-party technologies without patient consent.

Who can file a claim?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

• They were a patient of Margaret Mary Community Hospital Inc.
• They resided in the United States during the relevant period.
• They had a patient portal account with MMH.
• They logged into the MMH patient portal between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2023.

How much is the MMH payout?

Each eligible class member who submits a valid claim form can receive a $25 cash payment. In addition, all class members will automatically receive a code to enroll in the Privacy Shield Pro product, which offers privacy protection services.

How to claim a settlement payment

Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Is proof/documentation required to submit a claim?

To submit an online claim, class members must log in with the notice ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received. Those who are unable to locate their ID and PIN should contact the settlement administrator by emailing info@MMCHSettlement.com or calling 833-417-4918 and providing their full name and mailing address.

Settlement fund breakdown

• Payments to eligible class members: $25 per approved claim

When is the MMH settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to eligible class members approximately 14 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged Margaret Mary Community Hospital Inc. disclosed patient PII and PHI to third-party technologies without patient consent when individuals used MMH’s website and accessed the patient portal.

MMH denies all allegations of wrongdoing. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the expense, burden and uncertainty of continued litigation.
