Mattress Firm $6.4M Deceptive Discount Settlement

Consumers who purchased one to four mattresses in a single transaction from www.MattressFirm.com while in California between Aug. 1, 2020, and July 16, 2024, may qualify to claim $40 per mattress from a class action settlement.

Mattress Firm Inc. agreed to pay up to $6,411,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the company deceptively advertised mattress discounts on its website. This settlement provides eligible consumers with either a $40 cash payment or a $40 store credit for each qualifying mattress purchased during the specified period.

Who qualifies for a Mattress Firm payout?

To be eligible for compensation, class members must meet all of the following criteria:

• They purchased between one and four mattresses in a single transaction from www.MattressFirm.com (not in-store or through third-party retailers).
• They made the purchase while physically present in California.
• They made the purchase between Aug. 1, 2020, and July 16, 2024.

How much is the deceptive pricing payment?

Each eligible class member can receive $40 for every qualifying mattress (up to four) they purchased from MattressFirm.com during the class period. This benefit can be received as either:

• A $40 cash payment (subject to pro rata reduction if total cash claims exceed $2,000,000) or
• A $40 store credit to be used on future purchases at MattressFirm.com (not subject to a pro rata deduction).

How to claim a California Mattress Firm class action rebate

Class members can file a claim online or download and print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator. The claim form deadline is Aug. 5, 2025.

Only one claim form is needed per claimant even if they purchased multiple mattresses. Class members who do not submit a claim form will automatically receive the store credit.

• Attorneys' fees and expenses: $850,000
• Service award to class representative: $5,000
• Payments to class members: Up to $5,476,000 (including up to $2,000,000 for cash awards)

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Mattress Firm Inc. used deceptive advertising practices for mattress discounts on its website. The plaintiffs claimed these practices violated California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law and Unfair Competition Law.

Mattress Firm denied any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid the uncertainty and expense of continued litigation. The settlement allows eligible consumers to receive compensation, and both sides avoid the risks and costs of a trial.
