
Consumers who had a Formula 1 account and accessed formula1.com, f1tv.formula1.com, or any Formula 1 apps in the United States and watched a pre-recorded video between May 1, 2022, and June 24, 2025, may be eligible to submit a claim for up to $17 from a class action settlement.
Formula One Digital Media Ltd. has agreed to pay $5.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that it disclosed subscribers’ personally identifiable information (PII) to a third party without consent, in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA).
Who is eligible for a Formula 1 settlement payment?
Class members must meet the following criteria:
- Had a Formula 1 account at any time during the class period
- Both current and former account holders are eligible
- Accessed any Formula 1 digital properties in the United States
- Includes formula1.com, f1tv.formula1.com, any subdomains, or any Formula 1 app
- Watched a pre-recorded video between May 1, 2022, and June 24, 2025
How much is the class action settlement payout?
Cash payment: Valid claimants will receive a cash payment of up to $17. Final payment amount will be determined by the total number of claims filed.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a claim form by the deadline of Sept. 22, 2025. Claims can be submitted in two ways:
- Complete the online claim form
- Download, print, and mail the PDF claim form to the settlement administrator

Claimants should provide their name, mailing address, contact email, the email address associated with their Formula 1 account, and select their preferred payment method (check, PayPal, or Venmo). - Claims must be submitted online or postmarked by Sept. 22, 2025
- Only one claim form may be submitted per class member
- Claimants must attest under penalty of perjury that they meet the eligibility criteria

$5.5 Million Formula 1 privacy settlement fund
The $5,500,000 settlement fund will include:
- Settlement administration costs: Capped at $300,000
- Attorneys' fees and expenses: Up to $1,833,333.33
- Service awards to class representatives: Up to $2,500 each, total $5,000
- Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement funds

When is the Formula 1 VPPA settlement payout date?
Payments to valid claimants will be issued approximately 85 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why did this streaming privacy class action settlement happen?
This class action lawsuit was filed because Formula One Digital Media Ltd. was accused of sharing subscribers’ personally identifiable information with a third party without consent, allegedly violating the Video Privacy Protection Act. The defendant denies these allegations and maintains that consent was obtained, but agreed to settle to avoid the risk and cost of continuing litigation.
In addition to monetary compensation, Formula 1 will update its website consent disclosures regarding video information.
