Drivers who purchased or leased a model year 2014-2019 Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Truck manufactured between June 12, 2013, and Oct. 23, 2019, in the United States may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.

FCA US LLC agreed to pay $2.45 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it equipped certain Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks with defective exhaust gas recirculation coolers. The plaintiffs claimed these coolers were susceptible to thermal fatigue, which could lead to cracking, coolant leaks and, in some cases, vehicle fires.

Who can file a claim?

The class includes all individuals who purchased or leased a model year 2014-2019 Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Truck manufactured between June 12, 2013, and Oct. 23, 2019, in the United States.

How much can class members get?

The settlement provides several types of compensation and benefits to class members, depending on their circumstances:

  • Reimbursement program: Class members may claim reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses related to a failed EGR cooler, including:
    • Tow truck costs (no maximum per truck specified but subject to the overall cap)
    • Rental car costs (up to $500 per eligible truck)
    • Coolant costs (up to $75 per eligible truck)

The total cap for all tow truck, rental car and coolant claims is $750,000. If valid claims exceed this amount, the settlement administrator will reduce payments proportionally (pro rata).

  • Warranty extension: All eligible trucks receive a warranty extension covering all parts and labor needed to repair a failed EGR cooler for five years from the date of the EGR cooler replacement under Recall VB1. Class members do not need to submit a claim form or documentation to receive this benefit. The warranty extension follows the vehicle and not the individual owner or lessee.
  • Vehicle fire payment: Class members whose eligible truck suffered a fire caused by a failed EGR cooler can claim a $3,000 payment. Vehicle fire claims require proof of the fire and its cause.

How to claim a settlement payment

Class members can file the online claim form or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail or email it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is May 16, 2026.

  • Vehicle fire payment: Proof of ownership and fire (police, insurance or fire department report) and proof a failed EGR cooler caused the fire (such as a report or repair record mentioning the EGR cooler or its area)

When is the Crawford v. FCA US LLC payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval of the settlement.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged that certain Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks contained defective EGR coolers that could crack and leak coolant, potentially causing fires.

FCA US LLC denied all liability and wrongdoing. Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of a trial and to provide compensation and benefits to affected owners and lessees.
