Automotive salvage or recycling businesses that purchased certain BMW vehicles equipped with Takata inflators or Takata inflator-related component parts may qualify to claim $28.75-$40.25 per inflator from a class action settlement.
BMW of North America LLC and BMW Manufacturing Co. LLC agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it equipped certain BMW vehicles with Takata airbag inflators, which were later recalled due to alleged safety defects.

Class members must meet all of the following criteria:

- At the time of purchase or currently, they engaged in the business of automotive salvage or recycling.

How much can class members get?
Eligible class members can receive a cash payment for each certification of a recalled Takata inflator from a BMW vehicle. The settlement provides:
- $40.25 for each certification of a recalled BMW airbag in current inventories
- $28.75 for each certification of a recalled BMW airbag in historic inventories
Class members who have multiple inflators can multiply the number of eligible inflators by the payment rate to estimate their total award.
They cannot receive payment for inflators BMW already compensated under a separate program.

Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit alleged BMW included Takata airbag inflators, which were later recalled due to alleged safety defects, in certain vehicles. The plaintiffs claimed these inflators could rupture upon deployment, potentially causing injury or economic loss.
BMW denied any wrongdoing or liability but agreed to settle the case to avoid the cost and risk of further litigation.
