Employees who worked as a nonexempt employee for Bamboo Couriers in California between April 1, 2017, and May 1, 2023, may be eligible to receive a cash payment from a class action settlement.
Bamboo Couriers and Amazon.com Services LLC agreed to pay $295,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of California labor laws. The plaintiff claimed unpaid wages; overtime, meal and rest period violations; wage statement penalties; waiting time penalties; and unreimbursed business expenses. The settlement also addresses civil penalties under the California Private Attorneys General Act.
Who are the class members?
The settlement covers two main groups of employees:
- All nonexempt employees of Bamboo Couriers in California at any time from April 1, 2017, through May 1, 2023 (referred to as class members)
- All nonexempt employees of Bamboo Couriers in California at any time from March 18, 2020, through May 1, 2023 (referred to as PAGA members)
It is possible to be both a class member and a PAGA member if the class member's employment overlaps both periods.
The settlement administrator identified eligible individuals based on Bamboo Couriers’ employment records. Those who received a notice qualify as class members, PAGA members or both.
How much can class members receive?
The total settlement fund is $295,000. After deductions for attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, settlement administration expenses, service awards and PAGA allocations, the settlement administrator will distribute the remaining amount to participating class members.
There are two types of payments:
- Individual settlement payment (for class members): Calculated based on the number of weeks the class member worked for Bamboo Couriers during the class period (April 1, 2017, to May 1, 2023), divided by the total weeks all class members worked.
- Individual PAGA payment (for PAGA members): Calculated based on the number of pay periods the class member worked for Bamboo Couriers during the PAGA period (March 18, 2020, to May 1, 2023), divided by the total pay periods all PAGA members worked.
Award calculation details
- The settlement administrator estimates the net settlement amount for class members at $146,500.
- The total number of class workweeks is 12,702.
- The PAGA allocation is $20,000 with $5,000 marked for employees and the remaining $15,000 going to the state of California.
No action needed to receive payment
Class members do not need to submit a claim form to receive their settlement payment. The settlement administrator will automatically mail payments to the address on file after the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Those who believe their number of workweeks or pay periods is incorrect or who need to update their address may submit a correction form by mail postmarked no later than Dec. 6, 2025. The correction form is included in the notice packet class members received.

Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Bamboo Couriers and Amazon.com Services LLC violated California labor laws by failing to pay all wages due, including overtime, not providing required meal and rest breaks, failing to provide accurate wage statements and not reimbursing necessary business expenses. The plaintiff also sought penalties under the California Private Attorneys General Act for these alleged violations.
While the defendants deny any wrongdoing, they agreed to settle the case to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.
