Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged AARP violated the Video Privacy Protection Act by disclosing the identities and video-viewing activity of certain AARP.org members and users to Meta Platforms Inc. (Facebook) without their consent via the Meta pixel tracking tool.
AARP denies any wrongdoing. Both parties agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of litigation and to provide compensation to affected users.
