What happened?
Wilkes University discovered it was the victim of a cyberattack. The university learned on Sept. 22, 2025, that unauthorized access to its internal network had occurred between Jan. 25 and Jan. 26, 2025. A total of 27,632 individuals in the United States were affected, including 24 residents of Maine, 159 in Massachusetts and 290 in Texas.
Wilkes University notified affected individuals in writing on Oct. 8, 2025 and published a Data Security Incident Notice on its website. The breach was also officially disclosed to the Maine, Massachusetts and Texas Attorney Generals' offices beginning on Oct. 8, 2025.
