
Class members who received notice that the Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics data breach that occurred between Dec. 26, 2024, and Feb. 28, 2025, may have compromised their private information could qualify to submit a claim for up to $5,000 from a class action settlement.
Whitman County Public Hospital District No. 3, d/b/a Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics, agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment and violations of Washington data privacy laws related to the data breach, which exposed sensitive patient information.
Who can file a claim?
Class members must meet all of the following criteria:
- They are a living individual residing in the United States.
- The data incident that occurred between Dec. 26, 2024, and Feb. 28, 2025, compromised their private information.
How much are the settlement payments?
Class members can submit a claim for one of the following:
- Cash Payment A – Documented losses: Up to $5,000 per class member for documented out-of-pocket losses related to the data incident. Documentation is required to support the claim.
- Cash Payment B – Alternate cash: An alternative cash payment estimated at $60. The settlement administrator may increase or decrease the amount depending on the number of valid claims submitted.
Additionally, the class member may elect to receive credit monitoring services, including two years of IDX Identity Protection Services, including single bureau credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, $1,000,000 reimbursement insurance, member advisory services and lost wallet assistance.
How to claim a data breach settlement payment
To receive settlement benefits, class members can submit a claim form online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Is proof or documentation required to submit a claim?
Class members must submit proof for Cash Payment A (documented losses). They must provide reasonable documentation of out-of-pocket losses related to the data incident, such as bank statements or correspondence showing the loss.
Class members do not need to provide documentation to claim Cash Payment B (alternate cash) and/or credit monitoring beyond confirming eligibility and submitting the claim form.

Class members can choose from the following payment methods:
- PayPal (enter the PayPal email address)
- Venmo (enter the mobile number associated with the Venmo account)
- Zelle (enter the mobile number or email address associated with the Zelle account)
- Physical check (enter mailing address)
$500,000 settlement fund
The $500,000 settlement fund covers:
- Settlement administration costs: To be determined
- Attorneys' fees: Up to $166,650
- Attorneys' costs: To be determined
- Service award to class representative: Up to $3,000
- Payments to eligible class members: Remaining settlement funds

When is the Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to valid claim members after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval of the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit alleged Whitman County Public Hospital failed to adequately protect patient data, resulting in a data breach that exposed sensitive personal and health information. The claims included negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment and violations of Washington data privacy laws.
Whitman County Public Hospital denies the claims but agreed to settle to avoid the costs and time associated with further litigation.
