What happened?

In October 2024, Methodist Homes of Alabama & Northwest Florida detected suspicious activity on its computer network. An investigation determined that a cybercriminal may have accessed or obtained patient data between Oct. 2, 2024, and Oct. 14, 2024.

A review concluded on Sept. 2, 2025 and it was determined that 25,579 individuals across the United States were impacted. Notification letters were sent to affected patients and their families on Oct. 3, 2025.

Methodist Homes disclosed the data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Jan. 30, 2025. The cybersecurity incident was also reported to multiple state authorities, including Maine and New Hampshire, on Oct. 7, 2025 and Massachusetts on Oct. 9, 2025.
