What Happened?

McLean Mortgage experienced a data breach that affected 30,453 individuals across the United States. Suspicious activity was identified on October 17, 2024 and the investigation was completed on May 12, 2025. The cybercriminal group BlackBasta claimed responsibility for the attack and announced on the dark web that they had accessed approximately 1 TB of sensitive customer and organizational data.

According to reports, the compromised data may include accounting, financial data, loan information, payroll, tax records, human resources data, and personal documents belonging to both customers and employees.

The incident was disclosed to several Attorney Generals’ offices, including Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, with individuals impacted including 17 Mainers, 44 Massachusetts residents and nine New Hampshire residents. McLean Mortgage began notifying affected consumers in writing on June 11, 2025.
