Surgeons Choice Data Breach Exposes Social Security Numbers

Surgeons Choice Medical Center, a physician-owned healthcare facility based in Southfield, Michigan, disclosed a data breach that exposed sensitive personal and medical information. The incident was linked to a data breach at Aesto LLC, a third-party vendor that provides healthcare data migration and archiving services.

On or about Dec. 18, 2025, Aesto experienced a network security incident that impacted a portion of its Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Aesto launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity professionals to determine the scope of the incident.

The incident resulted in the exposure of Social Security numbers and health records of individuals linked to Surgeons Choice Medical Center.

The breach was reported to the Massachusetts and Vermont attorneys general offices starting on Aug. 21, 2026. The total number of individuals affected across the United States has not been publicly reported.
