What Happened?

Goodwin University discovered a network disruption on Dec. 4, 2025.

After engaging cybersecurity experts, the university learned on Jan. 7, 2026, that certain files may have been accessed without authorization. A comprehensive review determined that personal information was involved, and the university completed its electronic discovery on March 20, 2026.

The breach was caused by a ransomware attack attributed to the Qilin group, which claimed to have obtained data and posted about the incident on the dark web on Dec. 28, 2025.

  • Driver license numbers/state ID numbers
  • Government-issued ID numbers (such as passport numbers)
  • Personal health information
  • Health insurance information

Goodwin University notified affected individuals by U.S. Mail on April 16, 2026. The breach impacted at least 531 in Texas and 151 in Maine.
