
Individuals who received a notice from Jefferson County Health Center d/b/a Jefferson County Health Department stating a data breach that occurred between October 2022 and November 2022 may have compromised their personal information could qualify to claim up to $300 from a class action settlement.
Jefferson County Health Center agreed to pay $2.25 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to adequately protect sensitive private information during the 2022 data breach. The incident affected approximately 115,940 individuals.
Who can file a claim?
Class members must meet all the following criteria:
- They are a Missouri resident.
- They used Jefferson County Health Center’s services.
- the breach, which Jefferson County Health Center discovered on or about Nov. 15, 2022, compromised their protected health information.
- They received a notice from Jefferson County Health Center about the security incident.
How much can class members get?
Class members who submit a valid claim form can choose between two types of compensation:
- Fixed $150 cash payment
- Up to $300 for reimbursement for lost time and out-of-pocket expenses
The actual amount each claimant receives may vary depending on the number of valid claims submitted and deductions for administrative costs, attorneys’ fees and costs, and service awards.
How to claim a settlement payment
To receive compensation, class members must submit an online claim form or print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Required proof/documentation
- Fixed cash payment: No documentation is required for this option. Claimants only need to attest they are a class member.
- Reimbursement for lost time and out-of-pocket expenses: Documentation is required for this option. Acceptable documentation includes receipts, bills or other evidence of expenses or time lost directly related to the breach. Eligible expenses include costs for fraud or identity protection services, fees for credit repair services and credit monitoring services, and time spent addressing the privacy breach. Claimants must have incurred these expenses between the date class members received notice of the breach and Nov. 16, 2026, and must not have received reimbursement from another source.

When is the Jefferson County Health Center settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to eligible class members approximately 60 days after it resolves any appeals and the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The plaintiffs alleged Jefferson County Health Center failed to adequately protect patient information, resulting in a data breach in 2022. The plaintiffs claimed the health center did not fulfill its legal obligations to secure sensitive data.
Jefferson County Health Center denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of further litigation.
