What Happened?
Between April 27, 2025, and May 17, 2025, CNHI experienced a significant data breach. An unauthorized actor, later identified as the PLAY ransomware group, gained access to the company’s computer network and took certain files. The breach was publicly claimed on the dark web on May 21, 2025, with the hackers threatening to publish sensitive company and client data.
On Nov. 19, 2025, CNHI discovered that the compromised files included sensitive information belonging to individuals, including at least 1,203 residents in South Carolina, 57 in Maine, and 23 in Rhode Island.

Beginning on Dec. 8, 2025, the company disclosed the data breach to the Attorney Generals' offices in Maine, South Carolina, and Vermont. On the same day, the company began notifying affected individuals by written letter.
