What Happened?
On Jan. 14, 2026, Beacon Mutual discovered unauthorized activity on its computer network.
The company took steps to contain the incident and launched an investigation. According to their findings, an unauthorized party accessed certain systems between Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, 2026, and acquired copies of sensitive files.
A comprehensive review revealed that these files contained personal information of individuals.
The company began notifying affected consumers by written letter on May 18, 2026. At this time, approximately 607 Maine residents were confirmed to have been affected.
A ransomware group known as INC RANSOM claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about the breach on the dark web on Jan. 31, 2026, stating they had obtained 275 GB of data, including internal documents, financial statements, employee lists and confidential agreements.
