AttainX recently announced an expansion of its operations in Fairfax County, Virginia, following new Department of Defense contract awards. The company’s services include cybersecurity, software application development, cloud technologies, enterprise architecture, big data, and digital transformation. AttainX also maintains an engineering division supporting the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.
What happened?
In May 2025, AttainX experienced a significant data breach involving a ransomware attack. The hacking group known as PLAY claimed responsibility for the breach and threatened to publish the stolen data, via the dark web. According to claims, the compromised data included private and personal confidential data, client documents, budget information, payroll, accounting, taxes, IDs and financial information.
AttainX disclosed the cyberattack to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on Sept. 30, 2025. The total number of impacted individuals has not been released, but could be a high number, considering the number of agencies the company works with.

The company also began notifying people compromised by the data breach by mail on Sept. 30, 2025.
