
Moorman Harting & Co., an accounting and financial services firm based in Coldwater, Ohio, recently disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 17,765 people across the United States, including 1,143 Indiana residents and six Massachusetts residents.
On April 14, 2026, the firm identified suspicious activity on its computer network and launched an investigation to determine what happened and what information may have been involved.
On May 6, 2026, a ransomware group known as Akira posted a claim on the dark web through the Tor network, taking responsibility for the breach. The group stated it had obtained 21 gigabytes of data from Moorman Harting & Co.
The group claimed to have obtained corporate data, employee personal information such as passport numbers and Social Security numbers, client files, financial records, contracts and agreements, internal confidential files and non-disclosure agreements.
The types of personally identifiable information confirmed to have been potentially exposed in the breach included names, Social Security numbers and financial account information.
The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and the Indiana Attorney General on Sept. 25, 2026. The company began sending notification letters to affected individuals on Sept. 25, 2026.
The company is offering affected individuals two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through IDX. To enroll, individuals can visit the IDX enrollment page and enter the enrollment code included at the top of their notification letter. Individuals may also call 1-888-201-8041 for assistance with enrollment. The deadline to enroll is Dec. 25, 2026.
