On December 18, 2024, Vector Security discovered unauthorized activity within its information technology systems.

According to the disclosure filed with the Maine Attorney General’s office, the breach affected 30,282 people in the United States, including 134 residents of Maine. The exposed information includes names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state-issued identification numbers, credit or debit card numbers with security or access codes, tax identification numbers, medical information and health insurance information.

So far, the breach has only been disclosed to the Maine Attorney General’s office, which was filed on August 1st.

Notification letters were sent to affected individuals on the same date.

Vector Security's response

Vector Security is offering complimentary Single Bureau Credit Monitoring services for 12 months through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. These services include credit file alerts and proactive fraud assistance. Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services within 90 days of receiving their notification letter. Enrollment requires an internet connection and an email account.

Given the sensitivity of the information exposed, it is important for affected individuals to remain vigilant. Recommended steps include reviewing credit reports regularly, placing fraud alerts with credit bureaus and considering a security freeze to prevent new accounts from being opened in their name.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
