On Sept. 11, 2025, The Moinian Group was listed as a victim of a ransomware attack by the cybercriminal group Abyss. The threat actors claimed responsibility for stealing a 4.7 terabytes of uncompressed data from the company. This incident was first disclosed on the dark web, where Abyss posted details of the breach on their Tor-based leak site.

The Moinian Group operates a diverse portfolio of office buildings, hotels, retail spaces, condominiums and rental apartments in several U.S. cities. The total number of impacted individuals has not been released, but could include clients, tenants, employees and business partners.

The ransomware group threatened to leak or sell the hacked data if their demands were not met. The compromised data may include personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, addresses, contact details, Social Security numbers, financial records, lease agreements and possibly confidential business documents.

The Moinian Group's response

The Moinian Group has not yet issued a public statement detailing their response to the ransomware attack. The real estate company is more than likely working with cybersecurity experts to identify impacted individuals and will make certain required state and federal disclosures in the future.

If you believe your personal information may have been compromised in this breach:

  • Carefully review any notice or communication you receive from the Moinian Group or a business involved with the real estate group.
  • Monitor financial accounts and credit reports for signs of identity theft.
  • Consider placing fraud alerts or credit freezes with the major credit bureaus.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or phone calls requesting personal information.
