On or around Feb. 5, 2025, The Gatesworth Communities discovered suspicious activity within its network, which was reported by a third-party IT vendor. An investigation took place and revealed that unauthorized access that occurred between Jan. 22 and Jan. 26, 2025. The data breach affected The Gatesworth, McKnight Place Extended Care, McKnight Place Assisted Living and Memory Care and Parc Provence.
According to the company’s investigation, a cybercriminal gained access to The Gatesworth Communities systems by compromising the systems of their third-party IT vendor. On July 16, 2025, it was determined that personal and protected health information may have been accessed.
The Gatesworth Communities began notifying affected individuals on Aug. 26, 2025 and published a Notice of Data Privacy Incident on its website. Information accessed may include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information and payment information.
The organization also disclosed the data breach to the Montana Attorney General on Aug. 26, 2025.
Following the discovery of the breach, the company changed passwords, implemented additional security measures across its network, and notified the FBI. The Gatesworth Communities also engaged outside computer forensic experts to investigate the scope and impact of the breach.
