TAK Broadband LLC (TAK), a leading national fiber broadband network construction contractor, recently experienced a data breach affecting a total of 20,648 individuals in the United States, with four individuals residing in New Hampshire and one in Maine.
The incident began when TAK detected suspicious activity in their network environment on Aug. 11, 2025. An internal investigation, supported by external cybersecurity professionals, revealed that an unauthorized third party had accessed certain company systems between Aug. 2 and Aug. 12, 2025.
On Sept. 11, 2025, Qilin, a ransomware group, claimed responsibility for the attack, posting on the dark web that they had obtained 228 GB of data from TAK Broadband. They claimed the affected files included financial statements, contracts, and invoices related to both customers and staff.
At this time, the confirmed exposed information types are names, driver's licenses/ state identification, and Social Security numbers.
TAK completed its review of the compromised files on Jan. 14, 2026, and began notifying affected individuals on Feb. 19, 2026, via written communication.
Starting on Feb. 19, 2026, the breach was reported to the attorneys general offices of California, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
For those affected by the breach, TAK is offering twelve months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. Impacted individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services, which include credit monitoring, credit reports, and credit scores at no cost.
Enrollment details are provided in the notification letters sent to affected individuals.
Given the nature of the compromised information, individuals are advised to remain vigilant for signs of identity theft or fraud. Steps to take include reviewing account statements, monitoring credit reports for suspicious activity, placing fraud alerts or credit freezes with major credit bureaus, and reporting any suspected identity theft to law enforcement and relevant authorities.
The official notice also provides guidance on how to obtain a free credit report and place a security freeze or fraud alert.
