
Legacy Bank and Trust, a community bank headquartered in Missouri with branches across Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to an employee email account on May 21, 2026.
On May 21, 2026, an unauthorized actor gained access to an employee email account at Legacy Bank and Trust. The bank discovered the incident and launched an investigation with the help of third-party specialists.
The investigation involved a comprehensive review of the emails and attachments that may have been accessed by the unauthorized actor. The review was completed on Aug. 10, 2026.
The types of personal information present in the affected email account included Social Security numbers, financial account information, driver's license or other government-issued identification, tax identification numbers and login information.
The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Aug. 19, 2026. Legacy Bank and Trust also posted a notice on its website about the incident.
Legacy Bank and Trust is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Experian IdentityWorks. Affected individuals can enroll at the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page using the activation code included in their notification letter. Enrollment must be completed by Nov. 30, 2026.
