
Lansing Community College, a public community college based in downtown Lansing, Michigan, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its network systems.
On Feb. 18, 2025, Lansing Community College identified unauthorized access to certain systems within its network environment. After discovering the issue, the college worked with third-party cybersecurity specialists to secure its systems and launched an investigation into the full scope of the incident.
The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor had gained access to the college's systems through credential compromise on approximately Feb. 12, 2025.
The types of personal information exposed varied by individual but may have included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers, along with other information that had been provided to or maintained by the college.
The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on June 5, 2026.
Lansing Community College is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to eligible individuals. The monitoring services include one-bureau credit monitoring with alerts, dark web monitoring, three-bureau credit freeze assistance, change of address monitoring and identity restoration with lost wallet assistance.
Affected individuals can enroll in the credit monitoring by visiting Privacy Solutions and entering the activation code provided in their notification letter. For questions about credit monitoring enrollment, individuals can call 866-675-2006, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
The college has also set up a dedicated toll-free assistance line at 866-659-7088 for those with additional questions or concerns about the incident. The line is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.
