







Interior Federal Credit Union, a financial institution serving employees and affiliates of the U.S. Department of the Interior, recently experienced a data breach through one of its third-party vendors, Marquis Software Solutions Inc. The breach compromised personally identifiable information (PII) of potentially millions of people, including at least 696 members of Interior Federal Credit Union.
The breach was first detected on Aug. 14, 2025, when Marquis identified suspicious activity on its network and determined it was the victim of a ransomware attack. The unauthorized party accessed Marquis' network through its SonicWall firewall and may have acquired files containing sensitive customer data.
So far, the Marquis data leak has impacted at least 52 individuals in Maine, 495 in Washington and 149 in Iowa. The exposed information included names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, Taxpayer Identification Numbers, financial account information and dates of birth. This type of data is considered personally identifiable information (PII) and could be used in identity theft or fraud.
Marquis, the vendor responsible for the breach, notified affected business customers between Oct. 27 and Nov. 25, 2025. In addition, the breach has been disclosed to the Attorney Generals' offices in Maine, Washington, and Iowa.
In response to the breach, Interior Federal Credit Union and Marquis have taken several steps to protect affected individuals. Marquis has worked with its business customers to facilitate notifications to individuals and regulatory bodies.
Affected members of Interior Federal Credit Union are being offered complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Epiq Privacy Solutions ID, which includes credit monitoring, dark web monitoring, change of address monitoring and identity restoration assistance.
