Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC), a nonprofit organization based in Tampa, Florida, that coordinates the reliability and security of the state's bulk power electric system, disclosed a data breach involving the unauthorized copying of files from its computer systems.
The total number of individuals affected nationwide was not disclosed in the filing; however, 831 Texas residents and one New Hampshire resident were impacted.
On April 1, 2026, FRCC became aware of suspicious activity related to its computer systems. In response, the organization took steps to verify the security of its computer network, work to securely recover its systems from backups and determine what had occurred.
During its investigation, FRCC identified that certain files had been copied from its systems without permission. The unauthorized file copying took place over a three-day window, from March 30, 2026, to April 1, 2026, according to the notification.
The personal information that may have been exposed in the breach included names and Social Security numbers.
FRCC is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through IDX, at no cost to affected individuals. To enroll, individuals can visit the IDX enrollment page and enter the unique enrollment code provided in their notification letter.
The deadline to enroll in these services is Aug. 13, 2026.
In addition to the credit monitoring services, FRCC is providing affected individuals with guidance on steps they can take to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud. This guidance includes information on how to place fraud alerts and security freezes on credit files, how to obtain free credit reports from the three national credit reporting agencies and how to report suspected identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.
FRCC has established a dedicated toll-free assistance line at 1-833-788-9712, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Individuals may also contact FRCC by phone at 1-813-289-5644 or by mail at Florida Reliability Coordinating Council, Attn: Corporate Services, 3001 North Rocky Point Drive East, Suite 410, Tampa, FL 33607.
