Atlas Transfer & Storage Co., a San Diego–based moving and storage company, recently experienced a data breach affecting sensitive customer and employee information.
On July 15, 2025, the company detected suspicious activity within its computer systems. An investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had accessed and copied files from the company’s network on the same day.
The breach was later claimed by the Akira ransomware group, which posted about the incident on the dark web on Aug. 11, 2025. According to their statement, they obtained organizational financial records, payment details, invoices, as well as employee and customer information including driver’s licenses and personal files.
The compromised data varied by individual but collectively included names, Social Security numbers, tax identification numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, other government-issued identification numbers, credit or debit card numbers, health insurance information, medical information, and financial account information.
Atlas Transfer & Storage Co. disclosed the event on its website.
In response to the breach, Atlas Transfer & Storage Co. secured its network and launched a thorough investigation to determine the scope of the incident. The company reviewed the compromised files to identify what information was exposed and to whom it pertained.
Atlas is now notifying potentially affected individuals and has offered complimentary credit monitoring services to help protect against identity theft. Given the severity and method of the breach, Atlas recommends that affected individuals remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and monitoring credit reports for suspicious activity.
Under U.S. law, consumers are entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Individuals may also consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze on their credit files to prevent unauthorized access.
For further assistance, Atlas has set up a dedicated help line at 1-888-406-8903, available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
Additional resources and guidance on protecting personal information are available from the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.
