Ampex Data Systems

Ampex Data Systems Corp., a defense and aerospace electronics company based in Hayward, California, disclosed a data breach that affected 3,723 individuals in the United States.

The breach was reported to the Maine Attorney General on May 18, 2026. Ampex Data Systems notified affected consumers by written letter on May 26, 2026.

On March 21, 2026, a threat actor group gained unauthorized access to and encrypted the network at one of Ampex Data Systems' office locations.

A forensic investigation confirmed the unauthorized access occurred on March 21, 2026. The incident was contained two days later on March 23, 2026, though the restoration of the company's network and servers was still ongoing at the time consumers were notified.

On March 30, 2026, a ransomware group known as PLAY posted a claim on the dark web. The group stated it had obtained the organization's data and intended to publish it within three days.

The breach affected current and former corporate contractors, employees and dependents of Delta Information Systems Inc. and its subsidiaries, including Ampex Data Systems Corp., Acroamatics Inc., Telemetry and Communications Systems Inc. and Wideband Systems Inc.

The types of personal information exposed included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers or banking information.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a fraud alert or credit freeze with Equifax (1-800-525-6285), Experian (1-888-397-3742) and TransUnion (1-800-680-7289) to help prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened.
  • Request free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and review them carefully for any unfamiliar accounts or inquiries.
  • Monitor bank and financial accounts closely since banking information was exposed in some cases, and report any unauthorized transactions to financial institutions right away.
  • Watch for phishing attempts such as emails, calls or texts that reference Ampex Data Systems or this breach by name, as scammers often use real data breaches to trick people into sharing more personal information.
  • Report signs of identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov or by calling 1-877-438-4338 if any suspicious activity appears, such as unfamiliar accounts or unexpected bills.
