SportsEdTV $500,000 Privacy Class Action Settlement

SportsEdTV subscribers who watched videos on the company's website between May 9, 2023, and May 16, 2025, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.

SportsEdTV Inc. agreed to pay $500,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it disclosed subscribers’ personally identifiable information to third parties without consent and in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act and California law.

Who can file a claim?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They must reside in the United States.
  • They must have subscribed to SportsEdTV between May 9, 2023, and May 16, 2025.
  • They must have watched videos on the SportsEdTV website during the same time frame.
  • They must be among the 1,264 subscribers SportsEdTV’s records identified.

There are two categories of class members for payment purposes:

  • California residents, who are eligible for a higher payment due to an additional claim under California law
  • Non-California residents, who receive the standard payment

How much can class members get?

The total settlement fund is $500,000. The amount each class member receives will depend on the number of valid claims submitted and whether the claimant resided in California during the claim period.

Each valid claimant will receive a pro rata share of the net settlement fund (the total fund minus attorneys’ fees and costs, administration costs and service awards). California residents receive twice the pro rata share compared to non-California residents.

How to claim a class action payment

Eligible class members can file an online claim form or download and print the PDF claim form, complete it and mail it to the settlement administrator. The deadline to submit a claim is Sept. 10, 2026.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged SportsEdTV Inc. disclosed subscribers’ personally identifiable information to third parties, including Facebook, without proper consent, violating the VPPA and California law. The company denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continued litigation.

As part of the settlement, SportsEdTV also deactivated the Facebook pixel on its website and agreed to cease sharing certain customer data with third parties except as permitted by law.
