Consumers who lived in Missouri and made a purchase on Saatva.com between June 21, 2018, and June 18, 2024, may qualify to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
Whitestone Home Furnishings LLC, doing business as Saatva, agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it charged some Missouri consumers more sales tax than required on certain online purchases.
In 2024, Saatva settled a similar class action lawsuit benefiting California and Oregon residents for $11.5 million.
Who are the class members?
To qualify as a class member, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:
- They made at least one purchase of tangible personal property from Saatva through its website, www.saatva.com.
- They completed the purchase between June 21, 2018, and June 18, 2024.
- Saatva shipped or had a third party ship the product(s) from a location outside Missouri.
- The delivery address for the purchase was located within Missouri.
- Saatva charged them a sales tax rate higher than the applicable Missouri vendor’s use tax rate.
The vendor’s use tax rate combines Missouri state and local vendors' use tax rates in effect at an individual's delivery location on the date of their purchase. Saatva should have calculated the tax as (product charges before tax + shipping and handling charges) × vendor’s use tax rate.
Those who received a full refund for their qualifying purchase are not included in the class. However, anyone who received a partial refund may still be eligible for compensation.
How much can class members get?
Eligible class members will receive a payment based on the amount of sales tax Saatva charged them above the correct Missouri vendor’s use tax rate for their qualifying purchase(s). The specific amount each person receives depends on:
- The difference between the tax rate Saatva charged them and the vendor’s use tax rate
- The number of eligible class members
- The total amount of money in the settlement fund
The settlement administrator will reduce payments proportionally if the total valid claims exceed the available settlement fund.
No action needed to receive payment
Class members do not need to file a claim to receive payment. The settlement administrator will automatically send payments to eligible consumers. However, class members can update their contact information and/or select their preferred payment method (PayPal, Venmo or Zelle) by submitting a payment method selection form on the official settlement website. Those who do not select a payment option will receive a paper check mailed to the address the settlement administrator has on file.
To log in to the payment method selection form, class members must provide the unique ID and PIN located on the settlement notice they received. Those who misplaced their notice should contact the settlement administrator at info@SaavtaMOSettlement.com or 844-496-1265 and provide their full name and mailing address.
Settlement fund breakdown
The settlement fund covers:
- Costs of notice and administration: To be determined
- Attorneys’ fees: Up to 33.33% of the settlement fund
- Attorneys’ expenses: To be determined
- Service award to the class representative: Up to $2,500
- Payments to eligible class members: To be determined
The settlement administrator will donate any remaining funds after all payments to The OneSight Foundation, subject to court approval.
Important dates
- Opt-out deadline: Nov. 3, 2025
- Fairness hearing: Dec. 11, 2025
When is the Saatva Missouri tax settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will distribute payments approximately 10 days after it resolves appeals and the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit alleged Saatva charged Missouri customers higher sales tax than required on online purchases shipped from outside the state.
Saatva denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continuing litigation.
