
Students who logged into the Naviance platform at least once between Aug. 18, 2021, and Jan. 23, 2026, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
PowerSchool Holdings LLC agreed to pay $17.25 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the company, along with Hobsons Inc., Heap Inc. and the Board of Education of the City of Chicago, unlawfully intercepted students’ confidential and sensitive communications when they used the Naviance education technology platform.
Who can file a claim?
Individuals may be eligible to file a claim if all of the following apply:
- They are a person in the United States.
- While a student, they logged into the Naviance platform (offered by Hobsons and later PowerSchool Holdings).
- They logged in at least once between Aug. 18, 2021, and Jan. 23, 2026.
Parents or legal guardians can file a claim on behalf of minor students (younger than age 18) who meet these criteria. Those who are responsible for more than one minor student may receive multiple notices, each with a unique student class member ID. Each eligible student requires a separate claim.
How much can class members get?
Each eligible class member who submits a valid claim will receive an equal (pro rata) share of the $17.25 million settlement fund after deductions for administrative costs, attorneys’ fees and expenses, and a service award to the class representative.
The exact payment amount will depend on the total number of valid claims submitted.
The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount after it processes all claims and the court approves the final deductions.
How to claim a settlement payment
Class members can file a claim online or download and print the PDF claim form_v8.pdf), complete it and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is May 26, 2026.

What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?
When completing the claim form, class members need to provide:
- Their student class member ID (if they received a notice)
- The student’s first and last name
- The school-provided student email address used to access Naviance
- The claimant’s (self or parent/guardian) contact information
- Mailing address and current email address
- Signature and date attesting under penalty of perjury that they meet the eligibility criteria
Parents or legal guardians filing for a minor must complete and sign the claim form on their behalf.

Class members should follow these steps to submit a claim:
- Go to the online claim form or download the PDF claim form_v8.pdf).
- Enter the student class member ID (if available).
- Provide the student’s name and the email address used for Naviance.
- Enter the student's contact information (parents or guardians should include their name).
- Choose the preferred payment method (electronic or check).
- Sign and date the attestation section.

- Keep a copy of the claim form.

When is the PowerSchool Naviance settlement payout date?

The class action lawsuit alleged PowerSchool Holdings LLC, Hobsons Inc., Heap Inc. and the Board of Education of the City of Chicago unlawfully intercepted students’ confidential and sensitive communications while they used the Naviance Platform.
