
Individuals who arranged for or received solid waste collection services from a Waste Connections entity between Aug. 13, 2018, and the effective date of the settlement may be eligible to claim a share of a class action settlement.
Waste Connections US Inc. and related entities agreed to pay $1,400,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company imposed rate increases and fuel surcharge fees on customers without a contractual basis.
Who can file a claim?
The settlement class includes organizations and entities that received solid waste collection services from any Waste Connections entity from Aug. 13, 2019, through the effective date of the settlement. Examples include:
- Corporations
- Partnerships
- Limited liability companies
- Nonprofit organizations
- Governmental, quasi-governmental and public bodies
- Other organizations not specifically excluded
How much are settlement payments?
The exact amount each qualifying class member receives depends on the number of valid claims submitted and deductions for legal fees and other expenses. The settlement administrator will distribute the net settlement fund on a pro rata basis, meaning each approved claimant will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund.
How to claim an award
Eligible class members can submit an online claim form or download and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Is proof or documentation required to submit a claim?
Claimants must provide information showing they are authorized representatives of an entity that received hauling services from a Waste Connections entity during the class period, including:
- Claimant’s name and contact information
- Entity name
- Service address where Waste Connections provided service
- Attestation under penalty of perjury that the information is true and correct
Claimants using the online claim form must provide the unique ID and PIN they received in their settlement notice.
Payout options
The settlement administrator will mail paper checks to the address claimants provide on the claim form or the address on file with the defendant. Checks will expire after 90 days if not cashed. Claimants are responsible for any taxes that may be due on their settlement payment.

The $1,400,000 settlement fund includes:

- Attorneys’ fees: Up to $466,666
- Attorneys’ costs and expenses: Up to $75,000
- Service award to the class representative: Up to $35,000
- Payments to eligible class members: The remainder of the fund

When is the Pinnacle Waste Services settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will mail checks to approved claimants after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval to the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The lawsuit claimed Waste Connections entities imposed rate increases and fuel surcharge fees on customers without a contractual basis, which allegedly violated contract terms and duties of good faith.
Waste Connections denied all allegations and any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of continued litigation.
