Individuals who purchased a Belkin power bank in California between Jan. 2, 2016, and April 16, 2024, may be eligible to claim a $5 voucher or $2 cash payment from a class action settlement.

Belkin International Inc. agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging it misrepresented the milliampere-hour (mAh) ratings on its power bank packaging and advertising. The settlement also requires Belkin to update its product packaging to clarify the meaning of the mAh rating.

Who is eligible for a Belkin power bank settlement payout?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They purchased any Belkin power bank in-store, online or by phone.
  • They purchased the product between Jan. 2, 2016, and April 16, 2024.
  • They purchased the product while located in California.

How much is the class action payment?

Class members can select one of the following:

  • Voucher: Class members can receive a $5 voucher, which they can use for any product on Belkin's website. It is valid one year from the date of issue.
  • Cash payment: Class members can submit a claim to receive a $2 cash payment.

Class members can only submit one claim per person regardless of the number of power banks purchased.

How to claim a class action rebate

  • Class members who received an email or mailed settlement notice do not need to submit a claim to receive a $5 Belkin voucher.
  • Class members who received an email or mailed settlement notice and want to claim a $2 cash payment instead of a voucher must submit the exchange request form online.
  • Class members who did not receive an email or mailed settlement notice can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

When is the Belkin power bank payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments and vouchers to eligible class members approximately 90 days after it completes claim processing or the court grants final approval, whichever is later.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Belkin International Inc. misrepresented the mAh ratings on its power bank packaging and advertisements. The plaintiff claimed the mAh number referred to the size of the internal battery and not the actual output available to consumers.

Belkin denied the allegations, but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation expense and risks. As part of the settlement, Belkin will also update its product packaging to clarify the meaning of the mAh rating.
