If you received a text message from Jefferson Dental after requesting not to receive further messages, you may be eligible to claim approximately $57 from a class action settlement.
JDC Healthcare Management, LLC, doing business as Jefferson Dental, has agreed to pay $1,000,060 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly sending text messages in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Who can file a claim?
The settlement class includes approximately 10,334 Settlement class members who are:
- U.S. residents who use their cell phone as their residential telephone line.
- Individuals who received text messages from Jefferson Dental after making a 'STOP' request.
- People whose cell phone numbers were on the National Do-Not-Call Registry between May 17, 2019, and May 17, 2023.
How much can class members get?
Each Settlement Class Member who submits a valid claim form will receive approximately $57.
This amount is calculated by dividing the Net Settlement Fund by the number of valid claims submitted. The Net Settlement Fund is the total settlement amount minus administrative costs, attorneys' fees, and a service award for the plaintiff.
The remaining amount will be distributed to eligible class members. For example, if the Net Settlement Fund is $601,740 (after deducting $398,320 for fees, costs, and awards), and there are 10,334 valid claims, each claimant would receive approximately $57 ($601,740 ÷ 10,334).
How to claim an award
To claim an award, you must submit a valid claim form by December 9, 2024. You can file a claim online when the portal goes live.
Important dates
Deadline to File a Claim: December 9, 2024
When is the Jefferson Dental Settlement payout date?
Payments will be made within 60 days following the final approval of the settlement and resolution of any appeals. The final approval hearing has not been set as of the date of publishing.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The lawsuit alleges that Jefferson Dental violated the TCPA by sending text messages to individuals who had requested not to receive them and had registered their numbers on the National Do-Not-Call Registry. By settling, both parties avoid the costs and uncertainties of a trial, and class members receive compensation.
