Heritage South Credit Union Data Breach Settlement

Current and former customers whom Heritage South Credit Union notified that a data breach may have affected their their personal information in February 2025 could qualify to claim up to $2,080 and additional benefits from a class action settlement.

Heritage South Credit Union agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to adequately protect customer data during a cyberattack. The plaintiffs claimed the incident resulted in unauthorized access to files containing sensitive information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers and financial account numbers.

Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals residing in the United States whom Heritage South Credit Union identified and sent a notice stating the February 2025 data breach may have impacted their private information.

How much are settlement payments?

Class members have the following benefit options:

  • Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive one year of CyEx Financial Shield Total credit monitoring. Services include $1 million in financial fraud insurance, monitoring for identity theft and unauthorized transactions, and access to fraud resolution agents.
  • Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $2,000 for documented expenses, such as monetary losses due to identity theft, credit monitoring costs, replacement ID costs or postage for contacting financial institutions.
  • Lost time: Class members can also claim up to four hours at $20 per hour ($80 maximum) for time spent dealing with the data breach.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information

  • Online claims require the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice the class member received.
  • Documented losses claims require supporting documentation, which may include bank or credit card statements showing unreimbursed fees or fraudulent charges, receipts, invoices and other proof of expenses or identity theft and fraud.

When is the Heritage South Credit Union data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments and credit monitoring information to approved claimants approximately 75 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why is there a class action settlement?

This class action lawsuit claimed a targeted cyberattack on Heritage South Credit Union’s computer systems in February 2025 resulted in unauthorized access to files containing sensitive customer data. The plaintiffs alleged the company failed to adequately protect private information.
