
Individuals or business that purchased or leased a Toyota internal combustion forklift built between 2007 and 2021 may be eligible to submit a claim for $1,000-$2,500 per forklift from a class action settlement.
Toyota Material Handling N.A., Toyota Material Handling Inc. and Toyota Industries Corp. agreed to pay $299.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging misrepresentation of emissions levels and regulatory compliance issues related to certain Toyota IC forklifts sold in the United States.
Who can file a claim for a Toyota payout?
Class members are individuals or entities that purchased or leased an eligible Toyota IC forklift in the United States on or before Jan. 20, 2026. The settlement includes both new and used purchases.

How much will settlement payments be?
- Pro rata cash payment: Class members can submit a claim to receive a pro rata cash payment from the net settlement fund estimated between $1,000 to $2,500 each for each eligible forklift. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the number of valid claims filed.
- Service plan visit: For each eligible forklift, class members can schedule one free service plan visit, which includes free labor and travel costs. The service plan covers all major systems in class forklifts. Class members must use the free service plan visit within three years of the settlement effective date.
- New parts warranty: If Toyota offers a a government-approved or government-authorized recall by Oct. 31, 2028, for the settlement class forklift engines, class members will receive a new parts warranty. The warranty will include new engine parts installed in any qualifying forklift.
If more than one class member submits a valid claim for the same qualifying forklift, the original owner who purchased the forklift new will receive 60% of the settlement payment. The settlement administrator will divide the remaining 40% evenly among the other class members.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print a claim form from the same link to mail to the settlement administrator. Class members must submit a separate claim form for each eligible forklift.

The deadline to submit a claim is Sept. 22, 2026.
Class members can contact their local Toyota Material Handling authorized dealer to schedule a free service plan visit, by providing the forklift's model and serial number. Free service plan visits must be scheduled within three years of the settlement's Effective date, which is currently estimated to be by Aug. 8, 2029.
Required proof and claim information
- Claimants must provide the forklift model number and serial number. They must also provide information on whether they leased or owned the forklift, purchased it new or used and whether it is still in their possession.
- Class members who did not receive a settlement notice with a claim ID and PIN must provide supporting documentation showing proof of forklift ownership or lease. This includes vehicle title, registration, purchase agreement, lease agreement, proof of insurance or other documents showing the claimant's name and the model and serial number.

When is the Toyota IC forklift settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants after it completes claim processing, the court grants final approval of the settlement and the claim deadline passes.

The class action lawsuit alleged Toyota Material Handling N.A., Toyota Material Handling Inc. and Toyota Industries Corp. misrepresented the emissions levels of certain IC forklifts and failed to comply with regulatory requirements.
The defendants denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the costs and uncertainties of further litigation and a possible trial.
