Scribd Inc. $3 Million Job Applicant Class Action Settlement

Individuals who applied for a job with Scribd Inc. in Washington between Jan. 1, 2023, and Aug. 14, 2026, may qualify to receive an estimated cash payment of $219.27 from a class action settlement. The settlement class includes 9,330 applicants.

Scribd Inc. agreed to pay $3 million to settle allegations that it failed to include wage scales, salary ranges or a general description of benefits and other compensation in job postings for positions in Washington state.

Who are the class members?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

• They applied for a job opening with Scribd Inc. in the state of Washington.
• Their application occurred between Jan. 1, 2023, and Aug. 14, 2026.
• The job posting they responded to did not include a wage scale or salary range and/or a general description of all benefits and other compensation to be offered to a hired applicant.

How much are settlement payments?

Cash payment: Eligible class members will receive an equal share of the class fund, which is a cash payment estimated at $219.27. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the total number of eligible class members and the remaining net settlement fund.

No claim form required

Class members do not need to submit a claim form to receive their settlement payment.

They can submit a payment selection and/or address update online using the login ID and PIN from their notice or print the PDF address update form to complete and mail or email to the settlement administrator.

Settlement fund breakdown

The $3,000,000 settlement fund will include:

• Settlement administration costs: Up to $40,000
• Attorneys’ fees: $1,000,000
• Attorneys’ cost and expenses: Up to $5,000
• Service award to class representative: $25,000
• Payments to eligible class members: Remaining settlement funds

When is the Scribd Inc. job posting settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to eligible class members approximately 75 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

This class action lawsuit alleged Scribd Inc. violated Washington law by not including wage scales, salary ranges or a general description of benefits and other compensation in job postings for positions in Washington. The plaintiff claimed this violated the pay transparency provision of the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunities Act (RCW 49.58.110).

Scribd Inc. denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and cost of further litigation.
