California Google employees who self-identified as Hispanic, Latinx, Indigenous, Native American, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and/or Alaska Native between Feb. 15, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2024, may qualify to receive a cash payment from a class action settlement.

Google LLC agreed to pay $28 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company paid certain employees less than White and Asian colleagues.

Who is eligible for a Google discrimination payment?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They worked for Google in California at any time between Feb. 15, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2024.
  • They self-identified to Google as Hispanic, Latinx, Indigenous, Native American, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and/or Alaska Native.
  • They did not also self-identify as Black.

There is a subset of PAGA settlement group members who worked for Google in California at any time between December 8, 2020, and December 31, 2024.

  • They must meet the same self-identification criteria as above.
  • Some individuals may qualify for both a general class payment and a PAGA payment if they worked for Google during both periods.

How much is the class action settlement payout?

  • Pro Rata Payment: Eligible class members who do not opt out of the settlement will receive a pro rata payment.
  • PAGA Payment: Eligible PAGA settlement group members will receive a share of the $60,000 PAGA fund based on the number of pay periods they worked from Dec. 8, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2024.

How to receive a Google class action rebate

  • Class members who received a notice that included their correct information do not need to take any action to receive payment.
  • Class members whose address has changed or whose notice information was incorrect (such as compensation or pay periods) must notify the settlement administrator by mail with a postmark no later than July 15, 2025. These class members must complete, sign, and return the Notice of Estimated Class Settlement Share form with corrections and supporting documents.

$28 million Google discrimination settlement fund breakdown

The $28,000,000 settlement fund covers:

  • Settlement administration costs: Up to $36,000
  • Attorneys' fees: $7,000,000
  • Attorneys' expenses: Up to $300,000
  • Service award to class representative: $50,000
  • PAGA penalties: $240,000 ($180,000 to the State of California and $60,000 to PAGA settlement group members)
  • Payments to class members: The remainder of the fund

Important dates

  • Exclusion Deadline: July 15, 2025
  • Final Approval Hearing: Sept. 11, 2025

When is the Google discrimination payout date?

Payments will be mailed to eligible class members approximately 70 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement, assuming there are no appeals or delays.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Google paid Hispanic, Latinx, Indigenous, Native American, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and/or Alaska Native employees less than White and Asian employees for similar work. Google denies any wrongdoing or liability but agreed to settle to avoid the risks and costs of further litigation.
