Individuals who received notice that a November 2023 data breach at American International College potentially compromised their personal information may be eligible to claim up to $5,000 plus other benefits from a class action settlement.

American International College agreed to pay $315,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging a targeted cyberattack affected its computer systems in November 2023. The lawsuit claimed the incident exposed files containing private information, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth and financial data.

Who can file a claim?

The settlement class includes individuals residing in the United States whose personal information the November 2023 American International College data incident may have been compromised. This includes, but is not limited to, people who received notice of the data incident.

How much can class members get?

Class members may be eligible for one or more of the following benefits:

  • Cash payment A (pro rata cash payment): All class members may claim a one-time cash payment estimated to be $50. The settlement administrator will calculate the pro rata cash payment by dividing the remaining settlement fund (after settlement administration costs, attorneys' fees and costs, service awards to class representatives and other payments) among all class members who submit valid claims for this payment.
  • Cash payment B (reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses): Class members who experienced actual, documented losses incurred between Nov. 14, 2023, and July 22, 2026, due to the data incident can claim up to $5,000. They must provide proof, such as bank statements or receipts. Expenses a third party already reimbursed are not eligible.
  • Credit monitoring: All class members can enroll in two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring, which includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for identity theft, unauthorized transactions and high-risk activity.

How to claim a settlement payment

Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is July 22, 2026.

What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?

  • To submit an online claim form, class members must log in with the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received. Those who are unable to locate their ID and PIN should contact the settlement administrator by emailing info@AICDataSettlement.com and providing their full name and mailing address.
  • To submit a claim for reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses, class members must provide documentation, such as receipts, bank statements or other evidence showing they incurred the loss due to the data incident. Self-prepared notes alone are not sufficient, but class members may include them to supplement their documentation.
  • To submit a pro rata cash payment and credit monitoring, class members need only select the appropriate option and attest that they are a class member.
