About Suncoast Credit Union

Suncoast Credit Union is a large, Florida-based not-for-profit financial cooperative. It provides a wide range of consumer and small-business banking services, including checking and savings accounts, loans, credit cards and digital banking. With over a million members, Suncoast Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in Florida and the United States.

The organization was originally founded in 1934 to serve educators in Hillsborough County. Over the years, it expanded its membership to include residents across many counties along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Today, Suncoast Credit Union operates dozens of branches and emphasizes both in-person and digital access for its members.

What Happened?

In August 2025, Suncoast Credit Union was impacted by a data breach involving Marquis Software Solutions, a third-party marketing and communications vendor. On Aug. 14, 2025, Marquis detected suspicious activity on its network and later determined it was the victim of a ransomware attack. The incident was limited to Marquis’ environment and did not impact Suncoast Credit Union’s internal systems.

Investigations revealed that an unauthorized third party accessed Marquis’ network and may have acquired files containing sensitive information of Suncoast Credit Union members. The breach has been reported to the Maine Attorney General's office and to the Washington Attorney General's office. In Maine, 617 individuals were reported affected, while in Washington, 1,017 individuals were impacted.
