What Happened?

Steel Warehouse Company experienced a data breach that was first disclosed to the Vermont Attorney General on April 30, 2026. The incident involved a ransomware attack by a group known as Cactus, which claimed responsibility for the breach on Feb. 24, 2025, on a dark web posting.

The attackers stated they obtained 679 GB of data, including personal identifiable information, confidential corporate data, customer information, financials, employee and executive personal data and corporate correspondence.

The breach was confirmed to have exposed sensitive consumer information, including the following:

Information Exposed:

  • Names
  • Address
  • Social Security Number Information
  • Driver’s License number
  • Government-issued ID number (e.g. passport)
  • Date of Birth
  • State ID card
  • Financial Information (credit/ debit card numbers)

At this time, it is unknown how many total individuals were impacted as a result of the breach; however, at least 439 Texas residents were impacted.
