What happened?
Semple Marchal and Cooper LLP experienced a significant data breach. The incident was the result of a ransomware attack by a group known as INTERLOCK, which claimed to have stolen 564 GB of data from the firm’s internal systems.
The breach reportedly involved unauthorized access to an internal share drive through a phishing campaign that bypassed detection systems in February 2025. The breach was discovered on May 10, 2025 and impacted at least one of the firm's clients.
Semple Marchal and Cooper LLP notified SmartRent Technologies of the incident on July 8, 2025. The compromised data included documents related to SmartRent Technologies Inc.’s 401k retirement savings plan, affecting current and former employees from 2019 to 2024.
