What Happened?

On Nov. 3, 2025, Nium detected unauthorized access attempts to its file system. The company responded by immediately restricting access and conducting a detailed investigation. It was discovered that an old file from 2022 containing customer information had been accessed and downloaded by an unauthorized party.

Nium reported the breach to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office on Dec. 10, 2025. According to the disclosure, thirteen people in Massachusetts were affected. The company has stated that the affected file was primarily used for storing technical system logs, but a limited number of files containing personal data were identified as impacted.

In response, Nium has strengthened its monitoring, implemented additional security controls, and is planning to migrate to a new technology stack to further mitigate risks. The company is offering complimentary credit monitoring to affected individuals.
