What Happened?

On Feb. 12, 2026, Boston Capital Holdings began investigating a claim of potential unauthorized access to certain files on its computer network. Cybersecurity specialists were brought in to review and secure the network.

The investigation revealed that a sophisticated cyber actor used other legitimate companies’ cloud systems to bypass security tools and permissions, gaining access to Boston Capital’s systems. The unauthorized party accessed and copied files between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22, 2026.

Boston Capital completed its review of the affected files on May 5, 2026, and determined that the breach exposed sensitive information belonging to individuals.

Information Exposed:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Other government identification numbers
  • Financial account information (without codes to access accounts)

At this time, 132 Maine residents were impacted. Written notices were sent to affected individuals starting May 18, 2026.
