In December 2024, Alpine Lumber entered into an agreement to be acquired by Builders FirstSource Inc. The acquisition was announced in December 2024 and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, with CEO Hamid Taha remaining with the business during the transition.
What Happened?
On Dec. 22, 2025, Alpine Lumber discovered that certain devices in its network had been encrypted with ransomware. The company initiated its response protocols, contained the activity and began an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity professionals. Law enforcement was also notified.
The investigation revealed that between Dec. 14, 2025, and Dec. 22, 2025, an unauthorized actor accessed and obtained files from a file server on Alpine Lumber’s network.
After a careful review, Alpine Lumber determined on Feb. 5, 2026, that these files contained sensitive personal information.

- Health insurance plan enrollment information
- Health insurance policy numbers
- Medical information
- Driver’s license numbers
- State identification card numbers
- Passport numbers
- Other government-issued identification numbers

- Payment card information
The breach was disclosed to the attorney general of Vermont. Additionally, the company posted a notice of the incident on its website.
It is currently undisclosed how many individuals were affected by the breach.
