Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a credit freeze with all three credit bureaus. Contact Equifax (1-800-525-6285), Experian (1-888-397-3742) and TransUnion (1-800-916-8800) to prevent anyone from opening new accounts using stolen personal information.
  • Request free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228, and review them carefully for any unfamiliar accounts, inquiries or other suspicious activity.
  • Place a fraud alert with one of the three major credit bureaus, which will then notify the other two on the affected individual's behalf.
  • Review financial account statements regularly for unauthorized transactions or other signs of fraud over the coming months.
  • Watch for phishing attempts that reference Visual Creations Inc. or this data breach by name in emails, phone calls or text messages, as scammers sometimes use real breach notifications to trick people into sharing more personal information.
  • Report suspected identity theft by filing a police report with local law enforcement or by contacting the Massachusetts Attorney General's office at One Ashburton Place, Boston, MA 02108 (phone: 617-727-2200), or the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-438-4338.
