Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts, a long-term acute care hospital in New Bedford, experienced a data breach. On March 13, 2025, the healthcare organization detected suspicious activity involving multiple employee email accounts. An investigation revealed that a threat actor gained access to six internal email accounts between March 11, 2025, and March 22, 2025.

A review was completed on Aug. 4, 2025 and determined that sensitive patient was compromised during the cybersecurity incident. Vibra Healthcare has currently disclosed that the data breach impacted two hospitals.

The cyberattack was first disclosed on Oct. 3, 2025 by the Vibra Hospital of Sacramento. The Vibra Southeastern Massachusetts data breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on Nov. 3, 2025. Impacted individuals are being notified by mail.

Exposed information in the Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts data breach included names and Social Security numbers. The total number of affected individuals has not been released, but may include current and former patients from multiple Vibra Hospital locations.

Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts' response

After confirming the unauthorized access, Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts secured its email environment and engaged cybersecurity specialists to improve security measures. In addition to required state and federal disclosures, the healthcare organization is providing affected individuals 12 months of free TransUnion Cyberscout single-bureau credit monitoring services.
